The Darkly Ambitious Butler
A rich man hires a butler who is polite, hardworking, and eerily quiet. One day, the man jokingly asks, “If I disappeared, would you miss me?”
The butler looks up and says, “No, sir. But I’d be grateful for the opportunity to work for someone else.”
Confused, the man asks, “Why would I disappear?”
The butler smiles faintly and replies, “I didn’t say you’d disappear. I just said if.”
