The Overzealous Compliment
A guy walks into a coffee shop and sees an attractive woman sitting alone. He walks up to her and says, “Excuse me, I couldn’t help but notice how radiant you look today.” The woman smiles and says, “Thank you, that’s really sweet.” He leans in slightly and adds, “You know, you look like you’re glowing. Like a sunset… or an angel.” The woman chuckles awkwardly, not sure how to respond. He presses on, “I mean, I’m not saying you’re perfect, but you might be a little close to it. You’re like, the Mona Lisa of coffee shops.” The woman, now clearly uncomfortable, starts to gather her things. The guy continues, “Are you sure you’re not a goddess in disguise? Because you’re radiating divine energy!” She gives him a nervous smile and says, “I’m just here to grab a coffee, but thanks… I guess.” As she walks away, the guy, not realizing how overboard he went, watches her leave, proud of his attempt at a compliment but wondering why it didn’t go as planned.
