The Parrot in Heaven

A man passes away and finds himself standing at the gates of Heaven. St. Peter greets him and asks, “What makes you think you belong here?”
The man looks around and says, “Well, I led a good life. I was generous, I helped people, and I even took care of my pets.”
St. Peter nods and asks, “So, what was the most important thing you did for others?”
The man thinks for a moment and says, “Well, I had this parrot, and it was always so miserable, so I spent years trying to make it happy.”
St. Peter smiles and says, “You know, that’s quite admirable. But unfortunately, we don’t allow pets in Heaven.”
The man frowns and asks, “So what happens to the parrot?”
St. Peter raises an eyebrow and says, “It’s in Hell… and let’s just say… it’s now a cat’s pet.”
